Health and Safety Representative Refresher OHS training courses are WorkSafe approved courses for workplace Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and Deputy HSRs (Dep HSRs). They are for HSRs, Dep HSRs and others that have completed the HSR Initial OHS training course. The broad purpose is to refresh HSR knowledge, skills and confidence. The HSR refresher OHS training course supports; the continued performance of HSR functions, exercise of HSR powers for representing members of their designated work group and their effort to make workplaces safer. Although HSRs and Dep HSRs are the primary audience, managers, supervisors, health and safety committee members and anyone with an interest in health and safety may also benefit from attending the course. WorkSafe approved HSR Refresher OHS Training courses provide opportunity to revisit aspects of the HSR Initial OHS Training Course and refresh knowledge of the Legal framework and OHS Risk Management Processes. The programs are designed to enhance the skills of those elected to the role of Health and Safety Representative (HSR), or Deputy HSR. They are not competency-based courses. There is intentionally no assessment so as to encourage representation. Both courses are WorkSafe approved and intended to fulfil the representational training needs of workplace HSRs. Employers are obligated to facilitate HSRs attendance at a Refresher course each year after their Initial training, under section 67 of the OHS Act 2004 (Vic).* The learning objectives of the course are to enable: - Interpreting the occupational health and safety legislative framework and its relationship to the HSR
- Identifying key parties and their legislative obligations and duties
- Establishing representation in the workplace
-Participating in consultation and issue resolution
-Representing designated work group members in any OHS risk management process undertaken by the appropriate duty holder/s
-Issuing a Provisional Improvement Notice (PIN) and directing the cessation of work.
*Worksafe Victoria legal requirements. All elected Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and Deputy HSRs are entitled to undertake a WorkSafe Victoria approved HSR Refresher OHS Training course every 12 months and choose which course they attend in consultation with their employer. (Section 67 of the OHS Act 2004). An employer must allow a HSR or Deputy HSR to attend an approved training course on paid time and pay the costs of the course and any other associated costs. (Section 67 of the OHS Act 2004). WSS HSR INITIAL OHS TRAINING COURSE WSS001
