PERSONAL FINANCIAL PLANNING 1 (BUACC1521)

This course enables students to develop an understanding of personal financial planning and develop foundational knowledge and skills in preparing and using such information in various organisational settings and economic contexts. The initial focus of the course is on the financial planning environment and the importance of personal financial management in life planning. Practical financial planning skills are then developed in taxation, budgeting and investment projections. The course subsequently examines how financial planning is used to guide investment decision making, through a consideration of topics such as investment strategies and markets, direct and indirect investments, security investment analysis and leveraged investments. Credit, estate planning, retirement planning and risk management are then studied as means for planning and deciding investment strategies and to comprehend the impact on the financial planning process. Each topic is introduced by a critical review of foundational concepts and theories that are then discussed in line with practical approaches and strategies.
