This course is designed to help students enhance knowledge and skills in literacy, language, and literature for teaching in the middle and upper years of primary school. Students will explore theoretical frameworks, critical thinking, and program development. They will learn core teaching practices that are essential for effective literacy instruction, such as explicit teaching of reading and writing, assessment and data analysis, and the use of technology and multimedia resources to enhance learning. Throughout the course, critical thinking skills in relation to literacy teaching and learning in twenty-first century contexts are fostered. Additionally, students will explore a wide range of children's literature, including multimodal texts, and consider how to use these texts as a basis for constructing relevant teaching programs. In practical activities and discussions, students will apply their learning and develop strategies for creating engaging, effective, and culturally responsive literacy programs for their future students.
