Situating literary texts in their historical, social, cultural and literary contexts, this introduction to literature course develops students¿ appreciation of literature as a means of understanding society. In addition to exploring the social significance of literature, the course also guides students to consider how context has impacted upon the development of various literary forms over time. The literary forms studied may include epic narratives, poetry, short stories, drama, novellas, novels, serialisation, fan fiction, and graphic novels. Students will develop basic skills in analysing a variety of literary forms, as well as a range of transferable academic skills such as reading critically, comprehending academic writing, analysing texts in relation to their contexts, researching a topic, selecting and using reference material, using textual examples to support an argument, and presenting an argument in verbal and written form.
A CSP is subsidised by the Australian Government and students pay a contribution amount. Each unit is classified into a student contribution band, depending on the study area of the unit (this discipline may be different from the study area of your course).
