ACTING AND THEATRE PRACTICE 2 (PAATA1002)

"This course is divided into two strands: Acting: Building on foundational skills begun in Semester 1, the focus of this course will be translating and applying these skills to the written text. Students will learn a variety of strategies for the actor¿s approach to working with written texts, beginning with a fundamental grounding in text analysis: how a text may be examined for relevant information; how this information can be ordered and translated into rehearsal strategies, and how it may be used in performance. Students may apply concepts such as: given circumstance, action\objective, character and situation to dramatic texts within the studio. Students will be expected to develop personal rehearsal strategies, to create from authentic connection, to increase awareness of personal performance habits, and to investigate improvisation as a practical rehearsal tool. Scene-work will be undertaken in class and may be the subject of studio presentation. Theatre Practice: Theatre Practice is the component of the course where students explore, in a practice-based way, how acting processes evolve into performance. Students will participate in performance projects that culminate in small studio-based showings of work. This essential performance component of the Course allows students to integrate skills from across the broad range of skills-based classes in the Acting Program. It also allows them to make links between process-based work and performative outcomes. "
