"This course is divided into two strands: Acting: This course asks students to apply foundational performance skills acquired in PAMTA1001 Acting 1 to written text and scene rehearsal. Students will be given a variety of strategies for approaching written texts and scene rehearsals. Scene studies will focus on both individual scenes and a selection of play studies. Material will be drawn from both dramatic and music theatre genres. Scene-work will be undertaken in class and will be presented in small studio showings. Students will increase their awareness of personal performance habits and will continue to develop a sound practical approach to voice and movement within scene rehearsals and performance. Music Theatre Practice: Music Theatre Practice is the component of the course where students explore, in a practice-based way, how basic performance processes are integrated into performance. Students will participate in projects which culminate in small studio-based showings of work. This essential performance component of the course allows students to integrate skills from across the broad range of skills-based classes in the music theatre program. It also allows them make links between process-based work and performative outcomes. As such, students will be expected to apply skills learning to the music theatre practice project. Workshops will include scenes, songs and dances from musical theatre focussing on book musicals based on a narrative. A broad range of historical genres will be studied however the focus will be works post World War II leading up till the late 1960s. The workshop pieces will be rehearsed and eventually performed to an in-house audience. A strong focus will be on collaborative skills such as song and dance, acting in song, physical characterisation in music theatre and the acting requirements of various choreographic styles. "
