"This course is divided into two strands: Acting: This intermediate course is designed to increase the performer¿s ability to adapt the performing self to the demands of text in a heightened style, examples being drawn from a wide variety of classical and contemporary texts. Students will be asked to explore these texts with a mind to formulating practical work methods and rehearsal strategies that accommodate performance demands. The format for much of the work will centre on a detailed study of plays and scene rehearsal. Class work will periodically focus on presentation of these scenes. Music Theatre Practice: Music Theatre Practice is the component of the course where students explore, in a practice-based way, how basic rehearsal processes evolve into performance. Specifically, this Course asks students to consider integrating these core processes into rehearsal and performance of scenes from Music Theatre repertoire. This project will culminate in a studio-based performance. It is expected that students integrate knowledge, skills and values gained in other skills classes into these performances where and as required. Rehearsals will include scenes, songs and dances from Musical Theatre focussing on musicals utilising various styles. The focus will be on news works and historical repertoire. The content studied will address spatial awareness, linear and non-linear forms and characterisation within the stylistic choices of the musical as a form. The workshop pieces will be rehearsed and eventually performed to a public audience. A strong focus will be on collaborative skills such as song and dance, acting in song, physical characterisation in music theatre and the acting requirements of various choreographic styles. "
