To become a professionally accredited engineer there are two pathways available. The first pathway is to complete a four-year Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree with a major in Civil, Electrical and Information, Mechanical, Mining, or Mechatronics and Robotics. The second pathway is to complete a two-year Master of Engineering Technology degree. We also offer a number of other post-graduate programs that are not accredited but allow you to become a specialist engineer.
When you graduate with us, you will have an established network and important professional skills through our blended practical and hands on curriculum, including internship opportunities and real-world industry projects.

With so many areas of engineering to pursue, in multiple locations (Ballarat and Gippsland), as well as via online learning, we’ll have a program to suit your career goals.
Pathways to engineering
If you want a career in engineering, but don’t meet the entry requirements, choose a Diploma of University Studies (Engineering).
Completion will provide you with 120 credit points (8 subjects) towards the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil, Mechanical or Mechatronics and Robotics only) at Federation University.
There are also TAFE study options available including the Diploma of Engineering – Technical, Certificate IV in Engineering Drafting and Certificate II in Engineering.
Build on your existing skills
Our graduate professional entry programs offer intensive, focused study and professional knowledge – preparing you for the career of your choice.
Coursework studies at the graduate certificate, diploma and/or masters level includes maintenance management, health and safety, reliability engineering, mining, project management, civil, mechanical, mechatronic systems, renewable energy and electrical power systems.
Research pathways include the Master of Engineering Science and Doctor of Philosophy.
