The Bachelor of Business (Honours) delivers graduates with advanced training necessary to conduct independent high quality research in business.  Graduates are equipped with critical thinking and problem solving skills applied to the creation of new knowledge that addresses business related requirements and challenges.

The Bachelor of Business (Honours) course offers qualified students the opportunity for specialised study in business at an advanced level. The Honours course is a combination of coursework and research. The course aims to provide a post-degree level of study to widen students’ knowledge in one of the specialist areas in a business-related discipline offered by Federation University. It gives students the training necessary to conduct independent high-quality research in business and academic settings, cultivates analytical and critical skills and an awareness of emerging developments in business. The Honours course has been developed as a pathway for research and study at Masters or PhD level but can also provide a competitive edge in the marketplace.

Contact hours can vary depending on requirements, however typical contact hours for full-time study are around 25-30 hours comprising of on-campus classes, online learning and self-directed study.

Entry requirements (non year 12)

This course uses the applicant's entire academic record as part of its selection considerations. 
Compulsory: previous higher education studies with a minimum GPA (credit average overall for 2nd and 3rd year units plus minimum distinction average for 3rd year units).

English language requirement

Academic IELTS of 6.0 overall with no bands less than 6.0

Tuition fee information

Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP)

2025 indicative full-time fee: $16,992

Commonwealth Supported Places are subsidised by the Australian Government. The tuition fee is called the student contribution amount. The indicative fee above is based on a typical first-year enrolment for this course and should be used as a guide only. For 0.5 EFTSL (60 credit point) courses the certificate fee is displayed. Your fee will depend on the units you chose, your study load, the time it takes to complete your course and any approved credit you receive. 

How it's calculated

The government sets the fee each year. The amount depends on the discipline area and band of each unit. 2024 annual student contribution amounts for 1 EFTSL (equivalent full-time student load) range from $4,627 (Band 1) to $16,992 (Band 4).  The sample structure section above links to the EFTSL, Band and fee for each unit or you can use our unit search to find these details.

You will also need to pay the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).

Fee assistance

You may be eligible for a HECS-HELP loan, which can be used to defer payment of all or part of your student contribution.  You may also be eligible to defer payment of your SSAF through a SA-HELP loan.

Not direct – the pathway is via completion of a three year bachelor degree that may have encompassed VET learnings and/or pathways.

Graduates may progress to advanced research courses including a Master of Business by Research or Doctor of Philosophy.
