Develop your skills and knowledge for a career as an Adult Education Teacher, TAFE Teacher or Workplace Trainer and Assessor. This course is designed to prepare highly skilled industry professionals transition into a new career in TAFE institutes, registered training organisations (RTOs), enterprises, community organisations, schools and other VET provision contexts.
With this course you’ll learn how to plan, design, develop and teach course curriculum, and create engaging learning options – while using an approved learning framework to guide your practice. You'll learn skills like leading group learning sessions, helping in workplace training, teaching work-related skills, assessing progress with tests and tools, and adult literacy and numeracy support.
Common teaching areas for TAFE teachers, trainers and assessors include areas such as automotive, electrical, plumbing, information technology, construction and manufacturing, design, hospitality, tourism and retail.
Course Specifics
The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment covers:
• using training packages and develop learning programs
• addressing adult learning, literacy and numeracy skills
• providing training through instruction and demonstration of work skills
• facilitating group, individual and work placed training
• planning and conduct assessment
• assessing competence
• developing assessment tools and participate in assessment validation
Course delivery
You asked, and we listened. We now offer our Certificate IV in Training and Assessment with flexibility, so you find the right balance between your studies, work, family and other commitments.
You can attend classes at our SMB Campus or study online. We incorporate the latest digital technology to complement our training methods so, – if you choose to study online – you will require access to the internet and a computer capable of running basic computer software. Our online learning system allows you to study in a safe, guided and fully supported manner with the same access to all learning, personal and wellbeing supports.

This course is considered part-time with attendance being held 1 day or 1 evening per week.
Additional study time is required to complete assessments, classroom readings, and activities.
There is no mandated structured work placement in the Training Package. However, students must gather evidence over time in a real VET environment to demonstrate the student’s consistent performance in conditions reflective of this environment. Where the student does not have a VET environment, the university will support the student to find a suitable VET environment in which they can embed and reflect the range of activities and assessment required for this qualification. This will be managed through the VET work placement procedure.
The requirement for entry into the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification stipulates that applicants must demonstrate vocational competency in their proposed training and assessing area. Vocational competency is defined as ‘broad industry knowledge and experience, and may include, but is not limited to, holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification.

Applicants need to demonstrate the literacy and numeracy skills required to undertake this course through a test as part of the application process. The test will be conducted through Federation College prior to commencement of training. Feedback will be provided to the applicant on their results and types of support, if necessary, available to them.
