The Bachelor of Secondary Education (Applied Teaching) will prepare you for a career as a teacher in Victorian secondary schools. Many secondary schools are currently struggling to find qualified teachers who are able to teach the new VCE (Vocational Major) and, with many teachers “teaching out of field” because of staff shortages, this is an in-demand qualification.
Your previous occupation, experience and qualifications will be assessed prior to admission into the program. In many circumstances, you will receive recognition for prior learning based on your experience and qualifications, enabling you to become a fully qualified VCE (Vocational Major) teacher in the either 24 or 30 months.
Federation University has a long-standing reputation for producing highly skilled, passionate and resilient health and physical education teachers. With smaller class sizes, our education lecturers get to know our students, providing one-on-one assistance with assignments and course work – that’s why we’re Victoria’s #1 university for student support*.
Our Bachelor of Secondary Education (Health and Physical Education Teaching) prepares you to teach from year 7 through to VCE. You will have the opportunity to make a difference by giving young people the knowledge and tools to lead healthy and active lives.
Areas of study include exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor development, learning fundamentals, foundations of health and physical education, health and human development, nutrition, physical activity, creative movement, applied sports science, contemporary curriculum design, pedagogy and assessment for teaching and learning in health and physical education.
In addition to specialising in health and PE education, you will choose a second teaching method:
• English
• History
• Mathematics
• Psychology
• Science
• Outdoor education
You’ll be ready to teach by undertaking a minimum of 80 days of supervised teaching placement with our partner schools throughout the course.
Teachers are in high demand and you can teach across Australia in remote communities, thriving regional centres or in our capital cities.
